The
Stonehenge World Heritage Site covers more than
2,000 hectares around the stone circle. Ownership
and management is shared between English Heritage,
the National Trust, the Ministry of Defence, farmers
and householders. The Stonehenge World Heritage
Site Management Plan sets out a strategic framework
to conserve and manage the site for future generations.
It seeks to balance the primary aim of protecting
the archaeological landscape with other interests
such as visitor access, farming and nature conservation.
It includes a prioritised programme of action
with objectives for the short, medium and long
term.
