A Wide Variety of Wildlife

Chalk grassland is a scarce habitat, and the plans for Stonehenge constitute the largest single reversion scheme in the country. Eventually the Stonehenge landscape will provide a safe natural habitat for a wide variety of wildlife.

This will be a major step towards meeting the Government’s Biodiversity Action Plan targets for several important species of plants, insects and birds, including the Early Gentian, the Marsh Fritillary butterfly and the Skylark.

More information on chalk grassland wildlife and England’s biodiversity action plan targets can be found on English Nature’s web-site at www.english-nature.org.uk
