Chalk
grassland is a scarce habitat, and the plans for
Stonehenge constitute the largest single reversion
scheme in the country. Eventually the Stonehenge
landscape will provide a safe natural habitat
for a wide variety of wildlife.
This will be a major step towards meeting the
Government’s Biodiversity Action Plan targets
for several important species of plants, insects
and birds, including the Early Gentian, the Marsh
Fritillary butterfly and the Skylark.
